So much pop Japanese music seems to come out of Okinawa.

Dreams Come True うれしい!たのしい!大好き!
Definitely has an 80's feel to it. Certainly have to like that.

Exile
Falls into the I don't typically like this group/music genre but this particular song just kind of hits a note with me (particularly for Karaoke):

SMAP 世界に一つだけの花
SMAP is a popular idol group in Japan. Most of their music is not to my liking, but I love Bistro SMAP and "世界に一つだけの花" (their biggest hit song?) has a nice beat to it:

Music & Language
Via Khatz, a nice link to a literature review regarding language acquisition and music:
I am a proponent of music as source of natural input. It is accessible, portable, both aural and visual (lyrics), and most importantly: enjoyable.
Pay particular note in this article to the discussion of Medina's work pairing music with the input hypothesis. Though the study found no statistically significant difference between acquisition with or without music, that lack of difference is worth noting. If true, then we should expect to find the same results whether we are including music in our studies or not. Thus, if music is enjoyable to the learner it can be included without fear of performance degradation.
Music can be seen as an exaggeration of language, but it is not gibberish (really!). Like any normal utterance, it is a message encoded in a sound system following a generally prescribed form. We CAN learn from music.

Sunrise
Puffy seems to be more popular in America than they are in Japan, but hey, this song is nice and would be fun at Karoke:

As always, I try to provide a lyric page that you can actually copy text from to lookup meanings, but remember to just focus on a word or two. Don't bother with trying to understand the whole song at once.

キテレツ大百科の歌
キテレツ大百科 is an anime in the same tradition as Doraemon. The opening and closing themes are nice:
